Sennheiser is popularly known in the headset market for their trendy, sporty looking earphones. They have tied up with sports giant Adidas to add the sport quotient.
But are they really worth a shot or it’s just the hype they are trading on?
The fluorescent yellow wires against the dark plastic definitely give the MX i680 that sporty uber look. The highlight feature of the Mxi 680 is its ear fin holding system. This certainly works which I found out when I used them while working out & even while running without any earpiece falling out in the whole routine. So they easily are jerk resistant, can survive heavy moments and great while working out.
The MX i680 cable material is from DuPont Kevlar. Now what does that mean? It means that these earphones are strain resistant, offering amazing durability, which you don’t usually see as a dominant feature while choosing a earphone. This material features a moisture protection mechanism wherein you can freely wash your face with earphones plugged into your ears, without worrying about an electric shock or even damaging the earphones with your sweat during a heavy work out.
But now coming back to the same question- how is the listening experience?
So then I used them to listen to an online CNN stream and I felt “Hype...my iPhone standard ear buds are so much better sounding than these. But then I used them to listen to real music and heard an Eddie Vedder classic and later even James Blunt. The bass sounds richly deep and the highs are really classy to hear compared to any standard earphones.(I purposely heard James Blunt which sounded so much better, since you might argue that Eddie Vedder is bass justified,but honestly he sounded way classy in these than he usually does in any normal earphones). This pair is perfect for listening to Heavy Metal, Rock, Trance & other fast paced electronic music that are some of the best genres to listen to during a strenuous workout!
One more thing, the Sennheiser / Adidas i-series is specifically designed to work with Apple-tech like if you do not use a device to workout with, you can still use the MX i680’s to listen to your iTunes.
One more feature which I liked is that despite not being a real noise-cancelling ear bud, the MX i680 isolates the outside noise because it is acoustically designed so it blocks outside noise and gives you a pleasant in-your-own-world listening experience. The Adidas / Sennheiser MX i680 comes with an integrated remote and mic along with optimized & really useful accessories like the cable clip and storage pouch.
Although this pair may not have the best sound quality contest (its not supposed to) but it compensates that with its salient features perfectly suited for the gym & fitness enthusiasts’ pleasure of listening to music. So at Rs. 2790/- it’s an awesome buy for upgrading your listening experience. I would absolutely recommend it.
